The Inside Story of Vatican II

"The Inside Story of Vatican II" was originally published under the title "The Rhine Flows into the Tiber." It is an eyewitness account of the plotting of the liberal "German" side of the clergy against the Church during Vatican II. However, after a change in ownership, TAN Books changed the tile of the book and added a publisher's note on pages vii and viii.

This "Publisher's Note" does violence to the book insofar as it purports to interpret the author's intentions and feelings about what occurred during the Council.

I still recommend this book, since, after a cursory look at the index and most of the pages, its contents appear to remain the same. However, I underline the fact that the "Publisher's Note" is an inappropriate addition made several years after the author's death, and which tries to force an interpretation that is simply not present in the book itself.

Read this book when it was originally published when I was relatively young. At the time I had two sons in the seminary and was concerned with some of the Vatican II documents. This book really woke me up as to what happened at that Council. It also helped one of my sons, who is now a priest, to understand the intrigue that went on during that period in the Vatican. Thank God for Fr. Wiltgen for writing this book. I either lost, or gave my original copy away, and have been looking for the book under the original title for years. Thanks for the reprint. I do not think the name change was wise.
