Catechism for Children of Differing Ages

This newly reprinted Catechism for Children presents the truths of the Faith in a profound, but age-appropriate way, testing children differently depending upon their age and grade, all the while using the same text as the basis. Though written years ago, this book has sadly fallen into disuse, except for the Dominican Sisters at Post Falls, who have used this title in their education program for some years.

Illustrated with Lessons, Stories, and Prayers

Each chapter of this attractive and partially illustrated catechism begins with a story from the Gospel to help root the lesson in the words and life of Our Lord. After the Gospel story, children will review questions from previous lessons, and then proceeds to the lesson itself. After the lesson there is a small reflection on how the catechism lesson applies to the life of the child, followed by a short prayer, a Gospel text, and excitingly, a relation of the catechism lesson to the Sacred Liturgy of the Church.

Put simply, this Catechism for Children is an excellent tool by which to teach the catechism, which will be a joy for parents, educators, and children alike.

Godfather in a Book

I bought this book for my nephew and godson who I won't be around for the next few years because I'm leaving the country. I wanted to leave behind good material for him to read, to understand, and to cognitively develop into. After flipping through these pages I see the book is of high quality in regard to church teachings, and it screams traditionalism. This book is a breath of fresh air, and I want my nephew, my godson, to breathe the same fresh air that I currently enjoy (metaphor). I can't wait for him to be old enough to ask harder questions. I feel AngelusPress is well-equipped all around to provide good texts to catechize your children while not at church. Furthermore, I wanted to get the bible picture book as well, but that will be for the next time. From what I've seen with their 1962 leather missal, the catechism for children book is fantastic. Honestly, from my time at university, I've paid 4x the price for a book the same size and cheaper quality. You can confidently give this book to a child, and it will survive whatever physical tests they inevitably commit.

This wonderful book follows the same format as the Catechism of Trent.

It starts with explaining the Apostles Creed article by article. The authors do the same with the Lord's Pray, the Ten Commandments and the Seven Sacrements. There are questions at the end of each section geared toward 2nd & 3rd graders and questions for 4th & 5th graders. This book includes morning & evening prayers and an evening examination of conscience. There is a chapter of prayers. What a wealth of knowledge this book contains. I think this catechism is better suited for children who attend the Tridentine Mass but any Catholic child would (and some adults) would learn a lot with this catechism.
