Written between 1947 and 1968 while a missionary Archbishop of Dakar in Africa, these letters aimed to protect the faith of the priests and faithful of his mission field "and to strengthen them against the seductions of the world. From "Dangers of Religious Ignorance," to "the Church and its Social and Political Evolution" and the profound "Life and Truth." His consistent teaching shows a life of Faith over the years.
I like the traditional fabric style hard cover and gold letters rather than the soft matte soft cover on some of their books. I also like the plain paper pages instead of the matte magazine style finish used on the pages of some of their books and magazines, which produces a glare from nearby light sources making it difficult to read. There are a variety of subjects covered in these letters.
My only complaint is what looks like double print in many places. At first, I thought my eyes were going bad as I felt I could not focus on the words. After looking at it with a magnifier I see misaligned print. It appears randomly throughout the book. Knowing now that it is not my eyes, I can read it without a problem, but maybe they are printing on paper that is not perfectly flat, or have a misaligned printer.
Hopefully, they are aware of this problem, and have fixed it on current copies.
