"Rejoice in the Lord always: again, I say rejoice." - Phil. 4: 4-6
We transition from "the Lord is coming" to "The Lord is near" as we are more than half way through Advent. Although the Gloria in excelsis has been supressed during this season, we are left with the Alleluia to remind us that we are waiting, but we are waiting with great hope and joy!
Catholics will be glad to light the rose candle on their Advent wreath today and to see the priest dressed in rose-colored vestments - something we only see twice a year!
The Church gives us a short reprieve in the two penetential seasons of Advent and Lent with two joyous Sundays - Gaudete and Laetare. We are reminded through our penances and prayers that soon our joy will be fulfilled with the long-awaited coming of the Savior. Rejoice! The Lord is near...
