Habemus Papam

by Andrew Latham

Dear readers, yesterday we all saw the white smoke, heard the pealing of the bells in St. Peter’s, and watched with anticipation as the long minutes turned into an hour, and then, finally, Cardinal Tauran gave the famous lines, “Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum. Habemus Papam!” And for the 265th time, the Chair of Peter is occupied once more.

Time will tell if the Holy Father, Pope Francis, will work towards the restoration of all things in Christ, or if he will mitigate against Tradition. For now, especially for those who may be anxious and concerned, let us remember above all to offer prayers and sacrifices for our Holy Father, that he will hear and respond to the those same words which Christ gave to the Poor Man of Assisi so long ago: “Go, Francis, and repair my house, which as you see is falling into ruin.”

St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, pray for us.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

Pope St. Pius V, pray for us.

Pope St. Pius X, pray for us.
